For over twenty years I have walked in the jails in Russia. Those journeys took me to most incredible places. I have seen terrible rundown roads, passages without trails and prisons, which needed to be approached by a small plane or a boat.
On my travels I came to see the most primitive conditions where you cannot imagine anyone living. I met wonderful people who with great heart shared their meals with others and made life worth living and meaningful in hopeless looking places.
Often we heard the question: ”What have you brought to those prisons?” We took to jails food, clothes, handmade wool socks, medicine and other supplies for daily living. But that was not our main reason to go there.
